Dewatering plant - is a system of technical means for water extraction and its delivering on the ground surface. Dewatering plants are equipped with centrifugal pumps. The labour bodies of centrifugal pump are blades which have only angular motion and transfer the fluid energy. Centrifugal pump consists of one or several impellers with blades, shaft, pump case, with front fairing manifold, output device and delivery space. As main element the impeller gains energy from the engine and transfers it by means of blades to the fluid flow and jointly increasing the pressure.

- Functions: for pure water and special: coal-insuckers (coal pump), sludge pump, dredging pump, gravel pump, etc. Special pumps in contrast to normal pumps are remarkable for their protective devices availability which provide more durable unit operation during the corrosive liquid or oxyhydroxite transportation.
- Number of stages: single-step and multi-step pumps. Single-step pumps are usually used for equipment of auxiliary dewatering, as well as for priming of main pumps before start. Multi-step pumps are used in main dewatering.
- Type of the impellers connection: single-entry and multicircuit pumps.
- Pump casing design: box-frame, stage chamber and volute pumps (with horizontal pump casing stroke).
- Shaft and pump arrangement: horizontal and vertical pumps.
- Footing and impellers arrangement: cradle-mounted pump, forward-type footing and integral footing.
The main pumping action specifications are: pump output flow - volume of liquid are transferred by pump in a unit of time; pump thrust - specific energy which are input to liquid by pump.
Multi-step pumps have got the widest distribution because of the barest necessity to provide the considerable fluid head during the mines and pits dewatering on. Multi-step pumps are subdivided in two groups: stage chamber and volute pumps. This multi-step centrifugal stage chamber pumps are the basal for general and district dewatering.
Acoording to the GOST 10307-70 standards the table of symbols should consist of: the first letters - name of pump - CPS (centrifugal stage chamber pump), the figures after letters - rated pumping capacity (m3/h), figures after hyphen - pump trust in rating conditions in meters (in minimum and maximum number of stages). The letters after CPS are signify that a pump is designed for transmission of corrosive mediums (A - acid-resisting, H - hot water pumping, P- petroleum transfer, O- oil transfer).
Among the Special pumps there are pumps for transportation of hard material mixtures and water - coal pumps and sludge pump designed for coal hydraulic hoisting out of mines by hydraulic coal production method, by transportation hydraulic backfilling of worked-out area, pumping of non-clarified mine waters, dibhole cleaning and water drainage sump deslime, transmission of oxyhydroxite on the concentration plant and etc.
